“Where is solar technology going?” It’s a question we receive more often than you might think, primarily from customers who are worried that the solar panels they’re purchasing may be outdated within a few short years of their purchase. The answer: integrated AC modules. There are already several choices on the market and they can provide you with added efficiency and better reliability while also reducing cost and maintenance requirements.
To understand what this technology is, it’s important to understand how solar panels work. When panels absorb the energy naturally radiated by the sun, they output it as direct-current power (or DC). While many of your devices run off this type of power, the municipal electrical grid and your home both carry alternating current (AC) power along its lines. Therefore, in order for solar power to be properly utilized, you need to invert the power from DC to AC, which is normally done by a device called an “inverter.”
In older solar panel systems, the inverter was a fairly large piece of equipment. Not only did it need to be able to invert large amounts of DC power to AC, but it needed to output the AC power at an even voltage that could be utilized in your home (110 volts).
An integrated AC module gets rid of this large piece of equipment by breaking it up into several smaller AC inverter modules and mounting one on each panel on your roof. This way, the power that your panels generate is converted to AC power and sent into your home at an even voltage without the need for extra equipment and a long network of DC wiring.
LG is one of the most popular brands of high-efficiency solar panels available on the market today, one which our South Carolina solar installers are proud to carry. Today, they have partnered with Enphase to create a harmonious relationship that you can take advantage of: the LG NeON 2 ACe integrated AC module is designed to work with LG panels for a seamless experience. By bringing these two partners together to create one ideal solution, both installers and consumers can enjoy reduced installation times and a heavily-simplified process that consumers a streamlined equipment choice. Micro inverters are continuing to overtake string inverters in markets all across the country, so now’s the perfect time to make an investment in a solar panel system that utilizes this cutting-edge technology.
